HEALING CIRCLE TRAINING

“The Gloetry Assembly circle training gave me so much beyond what I expected. I overcame my fears about holding space for people while learning so much more about myself. By the end of the program I felt like I'd explored the depths of myself in a way that has allowed me to show up as a more authentic and vulnerable version of myself in all of my relationships, even beyond circles. I feel so much more equipped to be a facilitator that creates support and healing for my community.”

HEALING CIRCLE CERTIFICATION: CREATE AN ENVIRONMENT OF JOYFUL LEARNING

Are you ready to create an environment of equity, belonging, and voice within your school community, advisory program or affinity spaces?

Perfect! You’ve come to the right place!

Circle is a sacred space where people intentionally gather together, share their stories, are heard, and build community. Indigenous peoples around the world first used circles for intergenerational storytelling, sharing wisdom, empowering one another, and passing on traditions and customs to younger generations. This interconnectedness allowed people to open up, share vulnerabilities, fears and insecurities with those around them. As a result, people emerged with a deeper sense of empathy and compassion for the other—they began to see themselves in the other, and develop a greater sense of unity.

But over time, this way of relating disappeared with colonialism and the industrial age. Because of this, relational structures shifted from equity and togetherness to hierarchy and separateness. We began to see a paradigm of control, top-down structures, and aggression emerge. This can be reflected in the zero-tolerance and punitive policies used to address misbehavior at schools. However, we have learned that this type of approach to discipline does little to nothing to solve the root problem.

Establishing safety and trust starts with the teacher-student relationship. It begins with what we say, how we say it, and the integrity of those words. When teachers care about their students and use loving practices, students are excited to come to class, engage in classroom material and cooperate with the teacher. In contrast, when solid relationships have not been formed between teacher and student, safety and trust are eroded and learning is inhibited.

During this time of great trauma and change, now is the time to implement restorative and human-centered approaches into your classrooms. Circles teach us that we’re in relationship to everything and everyone at all times, and that caring for one another helps us thrive.

Logistics:

This Healing Circle Certification program is held virtually at mutually agreed upon dates between the client and Karmay. The program consists of 8 sessions that provide a foundational understanding of healing circles and practices for facilitating restorative conversations. We use research-driven, relevant and reflective professional development tools, and provide strategies for integration.

Facilitator

Karmay will be your facilitator. She offers an immersive experience by guiding the sessions much like she runs circles. This way, participants are able to learn directly from her modeling. Participants have the opportunity to hear each other’s stories and practice being vulnerable with their peers. She prides herself on her warm, engaging, and professional presentation skills. She believes that learning should be fun, and a shared collaborative experience for everyone.

FOUR COMPONENTS:

Planning With Leadership

Preparation for and facilitation of sessions with leadership for professional learning. Preparation includes meeting with program directors to support them in selecting staff members for training.

Healing Circle Learning Sessions

Facilitation of sessions with staff. The goal is to build team members capacity in areas of guiding circles, understanding trauma, building empathetic capacity, and modeling positive communication. These trainings are interactive, combining group shares, and smaller group breakout sessions, as well as lively presentations.

Materials

Karmay preps presentations, materials, and workbooks for staff to easily follow and understand information. Workbooks include comprehensive and detailed information about circle practice, lesson plans and scripts.

Coaching

Provide personal guidance and assistance to staff in understanding content covered. Staff will have the opportunity to ask questions, receive feedback, and participate in 1:1 role-plays to strengthen confidence

The Gloetry Circle Training Program is just as transformative as it is informative. I went in and came out with a totally different outlook on my community, my family, the education system, and all the many ways to use the school as a place of healing. I am so grateful to have been a part of this! This should be taught everywhere and to every educator.
